Archie Comics

So I am looking in one of my groups on www.goodreads.com Book Addicts and we have a list of 12 books that we want to read in 2014 as well as 4 alternates in case we get stuck. So I was looking at one person's list and someone had made the remark that their list looked like "Archie Comics" compared to this poster's list. I agree that majority of the time I feel I read stuff rather than enlightening books. But isn't it really to what we enjoy in reading that makes us happy? Why should we feel like we aren't reading the right material and who is it to say that it is the "right" material. I had a friend tell me that as she was going to college to become a writer that I read junk, mind you she read the same as I did before had. What gives you the right to decide that since you are to become a writer that I read junk? It still burns me up and that was years ago. If I didn't read junk I would have missed out on the Hunger Games and the Allegiant series too. Alas I'm listening to Emma on audio book. What a long audio, but I wanted to try "listening" to the classics a bit more and I am going to be better at attacking that 1001 Books to read before you Die list. I got that app on my i-pad. It's really nice and worth the money too.

Monday Blues

Monday has started out fabulously. Dropped my bare mineral warmth makeup this morning and the bottom broke out of the container all over the floor. Had to vacuum that up. What a waste. Had to open a new container, thank goodness to my friend Ashley who had given me her un-opened one a while back. Then I get to work to talk to crazy people who want to talk my ear off. I'm not ready for that in the morning, but I'm the only one here today and tomorrow to take the calls so that's what I'll do. I just had to post this on my blog-see how good I am? I realized that I should be able to rant and rave if I want to about ordinary life. I started playing a game on my ipad last night that I think is going to be very addicting. It's called Hill Climber Racing.

Another year almost gone............

And goodreads emailed me to tell me I've read 30 books this year. What a shame. But as you can tell with a little tweaking that I've done I'm getting myself ready for some more challenges ahead. 2014 Crusin' Through the Cozies, 2014 Book Addicts Reading Challenge, Goodreads Choice Book Awards group. As well as hopefully adding a 24 credit audible membership on by the end of the year. I always try to listen to an audio book driving back and forth to work. 1 hr a day is not bad. Plus I plan on getting my exercise groove back too. Gotta lose some weight. I really don't know how people do it blogging. But as always I am going to try harder.

Ramblings

I'm trying to keep up with books read on goodreads. Sad note that I've only read 16 books. I know that's not all together correct b/c I do listen to audio books. But I can say that 10 of them are cozies for the Crusin' Thru the Cozies 2013 Challenge. They are as follows: On What Grounds (Coffeehouse Mystery, #1) Finished 9/7/13 Dying For Chocolate (A Goldy Bear Culinary Mystery, Book 2) 7/27/13 The Cereal Murders (A Goldy Bear Culinary Mystery, #3) 8/17/13 Catering to Nobody (A Goldy Bear Culinary Mystery #1) 7/19/13 Flat Crazy (A Blanco County Mystery #3) 4/1/13 The Bat 3/7/13 And the rest are already posted so I know they are more that 10! I have really enjoyed reading cozies too, they are so much fun. Of course I still have those series that I need to finish......but I am on #6 for Alex Cross-I've missed him. I had to do a re-read for him b/c it's been too long. I had forgotten things that Alex and his family have gone through. And always about this time I feel guilty about not blogging and posting. I have to make it a priority, I have to be committed! That's where I need to be. I thought about starting a blog for my niece Addison and the peanuts (my sister is pregnant with fraternal twins) but I was like no...I can't even keep up with my book worm one. And I'm not even sure Addie is going to be a reader. That's what I would write to her the books I've been reading. Anyhoo.......life is good and I can't complain.

Holy Moly by Ben Rehder

Another fast paced John Marlin book, hate that it is the last one (currently) but I'm glad Ben will be writing another Blanco County book. I have really enjoyed this series and glad I was introduced to it through Cozy Mystery Book Group on goodreads.com

Gun Shy by Ben Rehder

This one by far has been the most fast paced book that I've listened too. I have enjoyed this series a lot and I love John Marlin. Can't wait to dive into the next one, I'm lucky I can listen at work right now.

Oral B commercial-dentist a man

So I'm watching the first episode of the Mindy Project (where have I been??) at work during my lunch hour and of course there's commercials. An oral B toothbrush commercial comes on with a male dentist and a female dental hygienist. So what's wrong with showing a woman dentist? Is the female opinion just not the same as a male's? Is this where we are in society? On the Mindy Project-love the first episode and I think I'm gonna love the show. Can't wait to watch more episodes, I love hulu plus!

Ebates Sephora and the Disney collection

So I'm a new memeber of Ebates, got my wal-mart gift card in the mail-introductory offer to get $10.00. It works! So the email that came today was 8% cash back on Sephora. Now Sephora has Bare Minerals make up which I use. So I ordered the BM Faux Tan Body Sunless Body Tanner. It had good reviews so I decided to check it out. Meanwhile while I'm looking around on the page I come across the Disney Collection. Thinking what is this? The collection I'm looking at is the Jasmine Collection and it's the second one. So I'm wondering what was the first? So a little while longer I find the Cinderella Collection and what is left is the 4 eyeshadow collection and the perfume. I am not a perfume person. I am real picky about what scents I like. But I jumped on the wagon and got the Cinderella and the Jasmine Oil Rollerball. I'm thinking that this will be easier to use and enjoy the perfume better. Plus I'm thinking on using it on vacation anyway. Of course when it comes in I may try each one to see..... I heard the funniest line ever yesterday listening to Ben Rehder's Guilt Trip. "She goes from zero to bitch, in 6 seconds". Awesome.

Decided for April

So I decided last week that on April 1st I would try and write in my blog everyday. It can't really be that hard and I know I have nuggets of knowledge to share or quirky things I say and have discovered, etc. Everyone has them! So as I'm looking for books to download I have decided that I'm addicted to finding serials. Yeah and it's enough right now that I'm in a challenge to catch up on the ones I read the most. Although I have to say that it's been so long that I've touched an Alex Cross book that I had to start over in his series, but I am enjoying it. James Patterson just cranks his out so much, that sometimes you need to take a break, I took a long one. I have a friend at church that always asks me how many books am I reading at one time. It can get pretty scary when I sit down and decide. Let's see currently I'm reading the following (meaning I've read some and need to finish it not TBR): 1.)RaShelle Workman's Blood and Snow Series-last novellete 2.)Stieg Larson's The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest 3.)John Twelve Hawk's The Golden City 4.)James Patterson's Cat and Mouse 5.)Stuart Wood's Son of Stone 6.)Jennifer Erin Valent's Fireflies in December Do we see a pattern here??

Bone Dry by Ben Rehder

Bone Dry (A Blanco County Mystery #2)Bone Dry by Ben Rehder
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed listening to this second book. John Marlin is exceptional in his job as game warden and Ben makes him so personable. Red and Billy Don are two very funny characters! Those too crack me up.

Buck Fever by Ben Rehder

Some state this isn't a cozy and then some say it is.  It is the Feb author of the group Cozy Mystery and since I'm only new at this I'll go with it.

Buck Fever was a very interesting book for me and I just love John Marlin.  His character is great and he can get himself into some sticky situations. The book flowed very well and kept you interested in what was going on. I laughed out loud at some situations and then shook my head at others.

I am currently listening to the second book Bone Dry.

Crocodile on the Sandbank (Amelia Peabody) by Elizabeth Peters

This was my first introduction to a cozy mystery.  I had a little inkling of what I was getting myself into.

In understanding this was the first book of the series it felt there was a lot of background writing going on and I was anxious for the action to get started.  I had to remind myself that this was my first book and getting used to a new writer.

In all I really did enjoy the story and the characters.  I really loved Amelia's philosophy on things and really men should not have all the fun, especially during that time period when women were considered genteel.  How they would cringe at today's standards.  I look forward in jumping into the next saga and relish being connect with Emerson, Walter, and Evelyn again!

Deadlocked-Charlaine Harris

Well for a little while I was thinking that Ms. Harris had lost her touch in the Stackhouse series.  It was getting mundane for all the issues that Sookie was going through and it just seemed like the same old story.  But by the end it was getting interesting again and to say, I was very happy on how it ended. I just feel sorry for Sookie b/c it just doesn't seem that a happy life is going to go her way anytime soon.  I look forward to the next installment.

1st day back to work

Ugh is what I say.  It's my first day back since being off for Christmas and I hate it.  Ok a little harsh, I do like my job but coming back from almost being a week off is rough.  200 plus emails to go through, thank goodness not that many voice mails.  I'd be pulling my hair out.

At any rate haven't started any of my challenges yet, waiting to finish Deadlocked by Charlaine Harris first.  And hopefully finish some other books I've started reading but left off.  I have the last of the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series and I think I had started the third book in the Rogue Angel series.  Then I started 2 new series......yeah I know.
